Mark 4:26-27
Step 1: Cast seed into the ground.
I like the into.
Not just throw it out – or broadcasting – but cast it into the ground.
Make effort to put it into the soil.
What’s the soil? People’s mind and lives. Different kinds of soil takes different kinds of approaches to planting.
Sometimes you have to plant things out of season because it’s your only chance.
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” 2 Timothy 4:2
Step 2: Get some sleep
Not the slothful inebriation of actually sleeping a lot, though this is obviously required for our bodies.
The reason is two-fold:
Sleep so that you’re rested for the continuing of the work.
Sleep as in find rest in Christ after the work – after sowing the seed.
Rest in Christ and trust in Christ that He will give the increase and harvest!
“For we which have believed do enter into rest…” Hebrews 4:3
Step 3: Rise night and day
See the order? Night and day? Jesus speaks this way because that’s how God created the first 24 hours.
Jesus here is confirming and settling the Genesis account once more and at the same time is implying that God is the one who will give this seed life. You’ll see why.
For us, the gospel-gardener, this night and day speaks of the constant attentiveness and labor of the work.
Often times at night you need to cover up your crops outside to protect from frost.
Maybe you need to stay up with someone sometime.
Little critters come at night and steal crops away.
We must rise at night to prevent this in our own life…to be constant in our mission, to shoo away little foxes that will keep us from having a blessed seed.
If we’re in a foul mood, shame on me, or if we’re too occupied with something else it can happen! And even after the seed is sown, we must water! We must pull weeds when we can, we must reinforce, and sow elsewhere!
Then behold! The seed should spring up and grow! 
What a mystery it is even to the wisest how such a tiny seed, thrown into soil, can miraculously under some clump of sod, die and birth a new living thing that will bear fruit!
It’s incredible that a small acorn can grow such a tree. And even more that a spoken word can become a new person by the Lord!!!
This is why I said Jesus was implying that by confirming the night and day account He meant God gives the increase.
The sower knows not how the seed profits from being sown or how it springs up except by the Lord’s merciful blessing!
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” John 12:24
Pray this morning for a gospel-garden to sprout!!!
